Remember they take their fee whether you make money or lose money, they take the fee out of your whole portfolio not just the earnings.
commentThe fee is certainly higher than what they are worth for basic investing. Fire them and manage it yourself. Go read the boglehead financial subreddit and follow a simple investment strategy. For most people in their prime earning years who are decades away from retirement, just put your money in VTI and chill. If you want a financial advisor, just use a 1 time fee only financial advisor to make a plan that you can easily follow. I highly recommend: https://www.planvisionmn.com/ They are low fee but high service. You get a ton of bang for your buck for straight forward financial advice and plan. Plus they are very responsive to email follow up. Emoney is a great financial planning tool that you use to review everything with them. IMO, for the price it is a no brainer to try them out. We self manage all our investment and use plan vision for a second set of eyes and to ask questions. Just for an example of the 1% fee from Merrill impacts your money over 30 years. Over 30years, a 1% assets under management fee from ML would reduce your funds by 25%! Look it up, the math doesn’t lie but the financial advisors will tell tales. Many of the FAs I have spoken with and bring this up will get defensive and discuss all the other benefits they bring, which there may be some truth to but at the end of the day, a fee based FA is a better choice if you don’t like burning money. Remember they take their fee whether you make money or lose money, they take the fee out of your whole portfolio not just the earnings. Also, notice that financial advisors will never agree to only take their fee if you make money and they typically never send an annual invoice to explain how much money you paid them based on what you earned compared to the a broad index fund like VTI. They don’t want you to realize how their fee drags down your account over time.

MONETIZATION
Model
Advisors often charge 1% AUM on portfolios (e.g., $2,000/yr on a $200k account); paying $19/mo ($228/yr) to audit and verify whether that fee is justified represents massive potential savings.

Generate an investment memoWhat this score means
This opportunity scores well above the median for ideas surfaced by MonetScope, with a validation sub-score of 9/10 against 3 independently sourced evidence signals. A "strong" rating in this band typically means the pain signal is consistent and recurring across multiple discussions, but one of the three pillars (severity, willingness to pay, or competitor weakness) is somewhat softer than top-tier opportunities. Founders evaluating this should focus customer discovery on the softest pillar first — confirming the gap before committing engineering time to a build.
Why this matters for SaaS founders
It sits at the intersection of "analytics", "cost-reduction", "data-management", which makes it relevant to a specific subset of founders rather than a generic horizontal opportunity. SaaS opportunities at this stage tend to win on the strength of their initial wedge — a single workflow that the target user runs every week, where the existing solution is either spreadsheets, a clunky incumbent feature, or a manual process they hate. The build cost is moderate; the distribution cost is everything. The MonetScope pipeline surfaces this category alongside other saas signals, which is why it appears here rather than in a generic "trending ideas" feed.

Frequently asked questions
Is "FeeView: Transparent Portfolio Return & Advisor Cost Auditor for Retail Investors" a real validated startup idea or just an AI-generated suggestion?
MonetScope does not generate ideas from a language model's imagination. Every opportunity on this site is anchored to specific source posts and comments from real public discussions — typically on Reddit, Hacker News, or X — where actual users describe the pain in their own words. The AI's role is structuring, scoring, and grouping those signals into a navigable opportunity, not inventing the problem.
How recent is the underlying data for analytics?
MonetScope's spider pipeline runs continuously and surfaces opportunities as new evidence accumulates. The "Updated" date in the header reflects the most recent re-scoring of this specific opportunity. Most saas opportunities visible in the public catalog draw from discussions in the last 30-60 days; older signals are de-prioritized because user pain shifts faster than most founders assume.
What's the difference between "overall score" and "validation score"?
Overall score is a composite across six dimensions — pain, urgency, willingness to pay, market size, defensibility, and execution ease — designed to give a single number for triage. Validation score is narrower: it asks "how cleanly does the same signal repeat across independent sources?" An opportunity can score high on overall but lower on validation when one or two large discussions dominate the evidence; conversely, validation can be high on a smaller-overall idea where the signal is consistent but the addressable market is modest.
