Find free online curriculums, sometimes your state education website will have free resources to pull from. Whatever ready-to-use curriculum you can find, use. This way you have something to actually do with the kids while you figure out the ins and outs of the rest of your job. Read up on the state requirements for english and pick a few to focus on this year. So if everything goes to shit you can at least fall back on your priorities. Lesson plan: read through the material and get a sense of the main goal. Identify the activites and lecture chunks. Plan for how you will present and transition. Keep it so so so simple, you will sepnd the next fomew years building up the complexity. Grading will drain you. Find fast ways to grade, and ive heard of more than one case of a teacher giving up and throwing a whole stack of papers in the trash because they didnt have time and it wasnt a priority anymore. Didn't mention it to the kids or if they did then the papers were dropped in a puddle or whatever lol
