My Algebra and Geometry classes had their first lesson and homework assignments on the first day of school, and have had brand-new lessons every day since. I spent about 15 minutes explaining the course to Algebra, and none at all in Geometry, since they had me last year and know exactly what to expect. Florida has stuffed the classes so full of content that I need 75 days to cover every lesson in Algebra 1, have a review day for each test, and give all 9 unit tests. There are a total of 78 school days (we're on block) before the end-of-course exam that they have to pass. Geometry needs 91 class days to cover everything, and I only have 78. So I'm doubling up on several lessons, even more than in Algebra, which has a handful of double lessons. The kids thought I was joking about the class's pace and now they're freaking out because it's going too fast for most of them...and I agree that it's totally unfair to them. But I have no choice.
